Visualising the striatum with [123I]FP-CIT SPECT imaging
In this study one of our customers, Kyoto Pharmaceutical University (KPU), imaged both striata of a mouse brain with SPECT imaging using [123I]FP-CIT (DaTSCAN). With this scan, binding to the presynaptic dopaminergic transporters is visualised. These transporters ensure adequate reuptake of the dopamine neurotransmitter from the synaptic cleft which can be compromised in certain diseases, e.g. Parkinson’s disease (PD) or dementia.
In this example 26.45 MBq (0.715 mCi) was injected in a mouse 60 min prior to imaging. A 30 min SPECT scan and general purpose CT scan was performed.
