I124 PET imaging in nanomedicine
The trend towards more personalised medicine has increased the number of biotechnology products and larger drug delivery systems entering preclinical and clinical studies. Pharmacological imaging studies with PET play an increasingly significant role in this process and these studies often require investigation of slow and complex pharmacodynamics. Labeling of the drug candidate with isotopes having a longer half live and well-known behaviour in vivo, e.g. I-124, can thus be beneficial to investigate pharmacokinetics of the new lead compound.
In the example below I-124 was coupled to an enzymatic nanomotor in order to better understand their behaviour in vivo and this way further enhance drug delivery efficiency compared to passive particles. Courtesy of Ana C. Hortelao, CICBiomaGUNE.
